Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.
– Melody Beattie

When casting the light of awareness on polemic and bigotry, it would be easy to get caught up in a quagmire of bad feeling, fear and ill-will towards other people expressing values of anger, hatred and abuse to us. It is all too easy to limit and define ourselves in relation to our immediate emotional reaction to statements that oppose our own values and ethics.

As we understand our own inner reactions more keenly – the storm of different emotions that rise up when we face bigotry, fear, hatred, we can start to develop compassion and understanding that extends beyond ourselves and those we care about. And it is when we live and breathe this within us, that this compassion dissolves the boundaries that separate human beings into one tribe and those who belong to it, and those who don’t. We have an individual and collective responsibility to keep breathing fresh energy into the positive values and spirit that bring us together as a community.

Sunrise’s intention behind the ‘One Human Race’ march on Saturday is to raise awareness of human togetherness, as we live alongside each other on this beautiful planet, sharing a collective past and interpreting the future to come. In-between these two parameters of time, is the present…And in this here and now, we create seeds of positive change within us, and into the world we live in – starting with each and every one of our words and actions- how we speak and offer these outwards in peaceful relationship to ourselves and each other.

Thank you to everyone who supported us in body or spirit (or both!) at both of our Saturday events – we all had an uplifting time – marching, eating, talking, laughing, listening and enjoying togetherness as a community.

Please could you pass on details to anyone you know who would enjoy our two free activity mornings coming up – baking and Christmas decorations – (see below) – as ever, they are open to all of you!

Keep well and wishing you good things
