We are so happy to let you know that we’ve just been awarded another three years of Big Lottery Funding for our project. It’s wonderful to have this affirmation that the outside world can see the value of the work that we’re doing to celebrate and improve human equality across Northern Devon.

A massive thank you to all of you who support us in various ways. It’s wonderful to know that we are part of a community of people who care about creating a world of compassion, understanding and dignity for everyone, not just a few.

After a busy summer including Indian activity mornings – (lovely Chana Masala got taken home, along with designing very beautiful henna patterns), and a trip to Westward Ho! (in sunshine no less!), we’re fast arriving into Autumn.

Two Sunrise events are on the horizon – both on the same day! We are organising a ‘One Human Race’ march, to stand up for social justice on Saturday October 14th from 11.30 to 12.30pm, to mark Hate Crime week. We will be gathering in the Square in front of the Museum at 11.30am. We would love it if you want to come and join us in standing up to create a society which values and understands that all human beings belong to the same species, and no one need suffer abuse, hatred or suffering because of how some people may perceive them.

After this, we are hosting a World Food Day ‘bring and share’ lunch – again on Sat 14th October from 1-3.30pm at the Castle Centre, next door to Sunrise.  We’d love you to come to this event, if possible bringing along a dish of food from another country to share. There will be live music, arts and crafts for children and we promise you, very tasty food to eat from around the globe! This was a very popular event last year, so please let us know if you’re planning to come, so we can make sure we have enough cutlery, cups and plates for you all!

We so hope that you’d like to join us at one or both of these events, – If you are coming to both march and lunch, and want to drop off your dish of food beforehand, then please meet me at Sunrise offices between 11 and 11.20am and you can leave it here.

Lastly, we are recruiting for a new Community Development and Support worker to join our NDS team. You can find details of this opportunity on our website:  We would be very grateful if you could share this across your social and work networks. Thank you for your help.

So Saturday 14th October – come and join us in marching to celebrate ‘one human race’, build up an appetite, then eat lunch together afterwards – please put the day down on your calendar, bring along your friends and family, and hope to see you there!

With our good wishes

Naomi & the Sunrise Team
